Academic Success Summer Workshop

An Academic Preseason Designed to Prepare Students for Success Before the School Year Begins: Learn to Understand the Academic Game, How It Is Scored, and How to Make the Decisions That Lead to Success.

Successful athletes would never enter a season without preparation. They spend time building foundational skills, understanding expectations, developing routines, and preparing themselves to perform at their highest level. Students deserve the same opportunity.

The Academic Success Summer Workshop is an academic preseason experience designed to help students enter the school year with greater awareness, confidence, and a clear approach to academic success.

Many students already demonstrate discipline, preparation, resilience, and commitment through athletics, the arts, leadership, and other demanding activities. The challenge is not ability. It is learning how to intentionally transfer those existing strengths into success in the classroom.

Through the Academic Awareness Framework, students learn how to understand their academic environment, recognize how success is measured, and make intentional decisions about how they prepare, learn, and perform.

In a highly interactive small-group setting, students develop practical strategies and a new way of thinking about academic success that they can immediately apply throughout the school year.

Who Is This Program For?

The Academic Success Summer Workshop is designed for:

  • Student-athletes preparing to balance rigorous academics with demanding athletic schedules

  • Middle school students preparing for the transition to high school

  • High school students seeking greater confidence, independence, and ownership of their academic success

  • Students entering more challenging academic environments

  • Students involved in athletics, the arts, leadership, and other demanding extracurricular activities

  • Students who are capable but have not yet developed an intentional approach to school

Why Families Choose the Academic Success Summer Workshop

Many students have the ability and motivation to succeed but have never been taught how to approach school strategically. Parents often see this disconnect clearly. A student who can memorize a complex playbook, perfect a musical performance, lead a team, or dedicate hours to improving a skill may not immediately recognize that the same habits of preparation, feedback, practice, resilience, and accountability can be transferred into the classroom.

This workshop helps students make that connection. Students discover that the same qualities that create success in athletics, the arts, leadership, and other performance environments are the same qualities that support academic success. Unlike programs focused primarily on reviewing content or completing summer assignments, this workshop teaches students how to understand the academic environment, recognize how success is measured, and develop a purposeful approach to learning.

The Academic Awareness Framework

Successful students do not simply work harder. They understand the environment in which they perform.

Students learn to think through three essential questions:

  • Situational Awareness: What is the environment I am operating in?

Students learn to analyze the complete classroom environment—including teacher expectations, teaching styles, available resources, course demands, timelines, and potential challenges—and adjust their approach based on what each situation requires.

  • Assessment AwarenessHow will my performance be measured?

Students learn that every assessment asks a different question. They learn how assignments, projects, participation, discussions, tests, and other assessments demonstrate learning and what teachers are expecting them to show.

  • Strategic Decision-Making: How do I use my time, energy, and resources effectively?

Students learn that academic success is not about spending endless hours studying. It is about understanding what is being asked, choosing effective methods of preparation, and making thoughtful decisions about where to invest their effort.

Performance Skills Students Will Develop

Students leave the workshop with practical tools and habits they can immediately apply, including:

  • A high-performance mindset rooted in preparation, discipline, resilience, and continuous improvement

  • Greater academic awareness and a stronger understanding of how to navigate expectations

  • The ability to analyze classroom demands and adapt their approach

  • Better decision-making around preparation, time, and effort

  • Stronger organization, planning, and executive functioning skills

  • Increased accountability and ownership of academic responsibilities

  • Strategies for balancing academics, athletics, extracurricular activities, and personal commitments

  • Greater confidence communicating with teachers, counselors, and coaches

  • The ability to transfer successful performance habits from athletics, the arts, leadership, and other activities into the classroom

What Students Will Learn

Developing a High-Performance Academic Mindset

Successful athletes, performers, and leaders understand that excellence requires preparation, feedback, resilience, and continuous improvement. Students will learn how to bring this same mindset into the classroom by approaching academics with greater intentionality, confidence, and ownership.

Developing Self-Awareness and Situational Awareness

Successful performers understand both themselves and the environment in which they operate. Students will learn how to evaluate the complete classroom environment, including expectations, course demands, available resources, timelines, and potential obstacles, and develop approaches that align with the unique demands of each class.

Strategic Decision-Making, Organization, Time Management, and Balance

Successful performers do not simply spend more hours practicing. They practice with purpose.

Students will learn that academic success requires the same approach. A student who studies for two hours and earns a disappointing result does not necessarily need to study four hours. Instead, students learn to evaluate whether they understood the expectations, prepared effectively, used the right strategies, and focused their effort where it would have the greatest impact.

Students develop stronger organizational systems, executive functioning skills, and practical strategies for balancing academics, athletics, extracurricular commitments, and personal responsibilities.

Accountability, Ownership, and Leadership

Great teams and organizations rely on individuals who take responsibility for their preparation and performance. Students will learn how to monitor their progress, set meaningful goals, follow through on commitments, and become active participants in their own academic growth.

Assessment Awareness and Strategic Preparation

Successful performers understand how they will be evaluated and prepare accordingly.

Students will learn that different academic tasks require different approaches. They will develop the ability to identify what they are being asked to demonstrate and prepare intentionally rather than simply spending more time completing work.

Communication and Self-Advocacy

Successful athletes and leaders seek feedback, ask questions, and communicate effectively with the people who support their growth.

Students will develop the confidence to communicate professionally with teachers and counselors, seek support when needed, and advocate effectively for themselves.
