About Dr. Albert Jones

Where Educational Expertise Meets the Mindset of High Performance

What makes Dr. Jones’s approach unique is his ability to combine decades of educational expertise with practical, individualized support that helps students better understand themselves, their learning environments, and the expectations they face. Throughout his career as a teacher, professor, researcher, and educational consultant, Dr. Jones has explored one central question.

What Helps Students Truly Succeed in School?

His work has shown him that success is about much more than intelligence or effort alone. Students must learn how to understand the environment in which they are learning, recognize how their performance is measured, develop effective strategies, and build the confidence to navigate academic challenges successfully.

As a lifelong sports fan, Dr. Jones has always been fascinated by what allows athletes and teams to perform at their highest levels. Preparation, discipline, resilience, strategic thinking, accountability, and the ability to respond to coaching are the qualities that separate good performance from great performance.

Over time, he recognized an important connection: many students, especially student-athletes, already possess these same characteristics. The challenge is that they are rarely taught how to intentionally transfer those performance skills into the classroom. That realization became a foundation of the Academic Awareness Framework, a structured approach that teaches students how to understand the academic environment, recognize how success is measured, and make intentional decisions that lead to their highest level of performance.

A Career Dedicated to Understanding Student Success

Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, Dr. Jones began his career as a teacher and administrator in Tennessee public schools before transitioning into higher education.

Since 1999, he has served on the faculty of the College of Education at California State University, Los Angeles, where he has taught in teacher preparation and educational leadership programs, helping prepare future educators and school leaders.

His research and professional work have focused not only on curriculum and instruction, but on the deeper factors that influence student success, including:

  • How teachers communicate expectations

  • How classroom environments shape student performance

  • How school culture influences confidence, engagement, and achievement

  • How students respond to feedback and challenges

  • How communication strengthens relationships between students and educators

These experiences have led Dr. Jones to a powerful realization: students often struggle not because they lack ability, intelligence, or motivation, but because they have not yet developed the awareness and strategies needed to successfully navigate the academic environment.

Leadership in Research and Educational Consulting

Since 2002, Dr. Jones has served as Co-Director of the Alliance for the Study of School Climate, an organization dedicated to improving educational environments through research, professional development, and consultation. Through this work, he has collaborated with schools and districts across the country, helping educators create environments where students can learn, grow, and thrive. This experience gives him a unique perspective. He understands school through multiple lenses, as a teacher, administrator, professor, researcher, and consultant. He helps students move beyond simply completing assignments and improving grades to understanding the larger systems, expectations, relationships, and skills that shape academic success.

More Than Academic Coaching

Today, Dr. Jones brings together his experience as an educator, researcher, professor, consultant, and lifelong student of high performance to help students and families approach academics with greater confidence, clarity, and purpose. His goal is not simply to improve grades. His goal is to help students become confident, independent, and strategic learners who understand their strengths, navigate academic expectations effectively, and apply the same qualities that lead to success in athletics, the arts, leadership, and other areas of life to the classroom.

Your Student Has the Potential and The Academic Coach Helps Them Unlock It

Every student’s journey is unique. Often the missing piece is not more intelligence or more effort. It is having the awareness, strategies, and support necessary to understand the academic environment and approach it with confidence.
